Some of our notable experience includes the following:
  • Defense of major petroleum company in multidistrict antitrust litigation that resulted in two denied class action motions, two denied requests for interlocutory appeal, and summary judgment in favor of defendants.
  • Defense of major petroleum company in antitrust litigation that resulted in summary judgment in favor of defendants, which was affirmed on appeal.
  • Successful trial and subsequent settlement on behalf of public utility for environmental clean-up claim against another public utility.
  • Successful prosecution on behalf of major petroleum company of claim that insurer owed duty to defend petroleum company.  Made new law in Illinois establishing that costs of defense under a general liability policy include costs incurred by the insured in pursuing third party actions against potentially liable parties.
  • Defense of railroad in appeal of conversion claim that resulted in reversal of a large verdict for compensatory damages and punitive damages.
  • Defense of major petroleum company in environmental criminal matter that resulted in judgment in favor of defendant following trial.
  • Defense of motion picture distributor in trademark claim, in which injunction was denied following a trial, and denial was upheld on appeal.
  • Defense of major oil company in employment discrimination claim that resulted in summary judgment for defendant.
  • Successful prosecution of numerous motion picture and television copyright infringement cases, which involved civil seizures of infringing items, including cable box decoders and copyrighted items unlawfully imported into the United States.
  • Defense of an appraiser in federal case for fraudulent and negligent misrepresentation, which resulted in a summary judgment in favor of defendant and affirmance on appeal.
  • Successful prosecution of a trust enforcement action in federal court under the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act ("PACA").
  • Prosecuted declaratory action and obtained favorable settlement on behalf of members of local housing cooperative.
  • Obtained judgments in breach of lease case totaling $100,000 each against tenant and guarantor, which included amounts for future rent under lease.
  • Successfully defended employment discrimination action, having argued complaint was filed too early.  Before appellate court, defeated previous attempt by complainant to take premature appeal.  
  • Defense of medical service provider in Illinois Antitrust Act claim which resulted in severance of case from co-defendants and later dismissal, with prejudice, of antitrust claims.   
  • Prosecuted breach of contract action by motion picture distributor, resulting in summary judgment awarding compensatory damages and attorneys' fees to distributor.
  • Obtained favorable result for real estate listings website in connection with inquiry by state real estate licensing authority.
  • Obtained favorable result for online real estate brokerage in connection with demand by local RealtorŪ Association to modify business and domain names.
  • Defense of harassment claims against corporate client and its CEO, resulting in grant of motion to dismiss all claims.
